Thanks for the feedback. Now I just have to get one for him to shoot. He has done the usual BB gun, 22 rifle and 410 shotgun. It is time for him to take the next step.

I agree w/ the youth.243 model. My daughter and I both have one and they are very easy to handle and shoot.

My son is about to be 10 and he killed his first deer at age 8 with a Remington model 715 .243 at about 60yrds. The gun is light weight and easy to handle. This gun was purchased at a local retailer for less than $300 with a scope. Its nothing fancy but I didn't want to invest alot of money until I knew he was serious about hunting he is hooked now after killing a deer and there is no need for me to purchase another gun because for him it gets the job done.

i bought my son a 7mm-08. It is a very versitle rifle that you can get 100 grn. bullets all the way up to 140grn. He was 9 when he killed his first deer with it. i hand loaded some hornady 120grn bullets with 36 grns. of reloader15. One shot through the bread basket at 200 yards fell over dead. Sweet shooting. Remington model 7. Smaller and lighter for youth. Also perfect for me to take out dog hunting.
